The Migrant’s Desk Project aims to motivate, accompany and empower migrants to overcome the constraints and deprivations they face: denial of rights and entitlements, lack of access to state provided services, exclusion from legal rights, banking, protection and social security systems, vulnerability to ethnic, religious, caste, class and gender discrimination, vulnerability to abuse, trafficking and exploitation at the work place and emotional and spiritual crises.

The Don Bosco Migrant’s Desk, called ‘SAHARA’ which translates as ‘Support,’ seeks to create awareness among the Migrant work force in the Goa Province and to provide the necessary support to access their entitlements.

The project is presently in the stage of studying and surveying the source and destination, accompanying, motivating and empowering migrants to overcome the constraints and deprivation they face. These range from denial of rights and entitlements to lack of access to state provided services, exclusion from legal rights, banking and various other areas of help that they might need.

The Pandemic induced Lockdown unlocked the gates of the migrants’ woes and brought into the foreground the varied kinds of assistance they require.

The Migrant’s Desk SAHARA, located at Baina operates in the areas of Zuarinagar, Sancoale and Baina in South Goa, as well as Hubli in Karnataka. In addition to the mandated services, we have also been distributing dry rations, Covid preventive kits, assisting them to register on the online portal for vaccination and disseminating awareness on Covid prevention.
