WELEAD
WELEAD: Women Empowerment and Leadership for Effective Administration and Development
WELEAD is a strategic initiative to strengthen grassroots democracy in India by empowering elected women representatives (EWRs) in Gram Panchayats across Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana. The project enhances women’s capacity to lead with autonomy and accountability by providing intensive training in governance, leadership, and policy-making. It also equips Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) to offer mentorship and sustained support to these leaders. Community awareness campaigns engage men, youth, and women to foster a more gender-sensitive and participatory local political environment. Through workshops, campaigns, and peer networks, WELEAD promotes inclusive decision-making and civic responsibility. By the project’s conclusion, hundreds of women leaders will have launched gender-responsive initiatives, and thousands of community members will recognize and support women’s roles in governance. WELEAD sets the foundation for more inclusive, equitable, and transparent rural administration, making it a high-impact investment for donors focused on gender equality and democratic development.
