Bosco Udyogshala, Sindhudurg, Maharashtra
Bosco Udyogshala, is an institution that was established in the year 1986 with the primary aim of imparting technical education to the nearby rural village youngsters of the Sindhudurg district. Through its intervention the institution has tried over the years to provide the youngsters a trade in hand, thus making them employable and in a way alleviating the abject rural poverty that is present in the Sindhudurg District. The Sindhudurg district is one of the most backward districts of Maharashtra. The institute started non formal technical courses initially for a period of three year and in August 1989 the institution got permission to start a formal ITI. Organization’s Mission & Goals:
The mission of Bosco Udyogshala is to impart the best quality vocational, technical education and life skills to the least, be it drop outs or poor youth. We through our intervention try to give each and every youngster that we encounter a trade in hand so that he would be able to provide an honest living to his family. Thus, in return we plan to uplift their families and the entire society at large.
Our goal is to collaborate with industry to provide youngsters the latest cutting-edge technology thus bridging the great gap between industry requirements and actual course curriculum.
Objectives:
Sindhudurg district is one of the districts of Maharashtra with around 59 percent of population in working age group. Among these around 47 percent people are actually working while 12 percent of the working age population is unemployed and looking for jobs. Majority of them are unskilled due to which they don’t have any decent employment opportunities. Most of them work as construction workers and domestic helps. The children are mostly school dropouts and they join their parents at work and contribute towards the family’s income. They work in unsafe environment and are at risk of occupational hazards and trauma. Poor access to good education, skill training and lack of income opportunities for poor people limits human capital formation among these people and especially their children.
Growth has not taken place largely due to financial constraints of the ITI. Being a rural private ITI, that has largely catered to poor rural youth that are not cable to pay the fees necessary to meet the running cost of the ITI.
The Institution serves the marginalized and targets students dropped out from the formal education system. Most of the students admitted to this trade have either dropped out of school after the 8th standard or have failed their state board examination at the SSC level. Thus, we are able to give the students a new lease of life in their otherwise hopeless situation.
The courses offered run for a period of one year to two years. There has been a steady growth in takers for these courses.
Although the institute offers quality education it has not been able to expand and grow purely due to financial constraints.
