In May 2019 the Calangute Peoples High School, was handed over to Konkan Development Society by the Calangute Educational Society and the Directorate of Education, Govt. of Goa gave us the permission to change the name to St. Dominic Savio High School. The school is government aided with a capacity of 261 students from Stds. I to X. The children are predominantly from economically and socially backward families.
The School infrastructure was urgently in need of renovation, repair and up-gradation, a task for which we required to raise funds from generous and committed people, who share our vision of enabling the less privileged to improve their lot through quality education.
We had begun construction of a new block on the existing property, adjacent to the old one, to accommodate six classrooms, as the School has been operating from two different locations and it was difficult for the children and teachers to move back and forth, particularly during the rains.
With the support and generosity of some of our benefactors, we have been able to complete the block and are eagerly awaiting the re-opening of School, when the students of Stds. 5 to 10 will return, to enjoy the benefits of this initiative.
Konkan Development Society (KDS) strives towards creation of a just and equitable society, where there is respect towards human rights and human values; a society where poor and marginalized communities are enabled to become self-reliant, self- sustaining & empowered to take care of their own development.
