Agriculture (Farming / Toddy Tapping)

Don Bosco’s Konkan Development Society has always been keen to involve youth in environmental causes for a greener future. Farming is a key area where youth involvement can reconnect future generations to their land, their food source and to the rhythms of nature. Farming is also an area which needs new ideas and innovation along with traditional wisdom to ensure food security and sustainable development. With this in mind, Fr. Lawrence Monteiro, Executive Director of KDS, envisaged a programme to involve young people in farming practices. We call this program ‘Farmers for Future’.

Aims and Objectives of the Project

  1. Bring about a revival in farming by encouraging young people to take interest
  2. Revive farming practices using innovation and modern technology
  3. Create livelihood opportunities in farming and related areas
  4. Practice sustainable agriculture to help conserve natural resources
  5. Make a spiritual connection with the land, our food sources and with nature
